The Oath to the Order of Hermes

I, [Name] of [House], hereby swear my lifelong loyalty to the Order of Hermes and its members.
I will not deprive nor attempt to deprive any member of the Order of his or her magical power.
I will not slay nor attempt to slay any member of the Order, except in a justly executed Wizard War.
I understand that a Wizard War is an open conflict between two magi, who may slay each other without breaking this Oath, and that should I be slain in a Wizard War, no retribution shall fall on the magus who slays me.
I will abide by the decisions made by fair vote at Tribunal. I will have one vote at Tribunal, and I will use it prudently. I will respect as equal the votes of all others at Tribunal.
I will not endanger the Order through my actions
I will not interfere with the affairs of mundanes and thereby bring ruin upon my sodales.
I will not deal with devils, lest I imperil my soul and the souls of my sodales as well.
I will not molest the faeries, lest their vengeance catch my sodales also.
I will not use magic to spy on members of the Order of Hermes.
I will train apprentices who will swear to this Code, and should any of them turn against the Order and my sodales, I will be the first to strike them. No apprentice of mine shall be called magus until he or she first swears to uphold this Oath.
I shall further the knowledge of the Order and share with my sodales all that I find in my search for wisdom and power. I request that should I break this Oath, I be cast out of the Order. If I am cast out, I ask my sodales to find me and slay me that my life may not continue in degradation and infamy.
The enemies of the Order are my enemies. The friends of the Order are my friends. The allies of the Order are my allies.
Let us work as one and grow strong.
This I hereby swear on [Date].
Woe to them who try to tempt me to break this Oath, and woe to me if I fall to the temptation.

[Name] of [House]

The Oath to the Cliffheart Covenant

I, [Name], do humbly ask for acceptance into the Covenant of Cliffheart. I do so of my own will, under no influences other other than my own; no magicks or powers mundane force me here today. I understand that my life is forfeit should this or any other part of my oath be found false. Here I stand, with full knowledge of what I do.
I swear by the Order, my life, and all I hold dear, that I am [Name], follower of [House], filius of [Parens], fully trained solely in the ways of Hermetic Magic and none other. I here truthfully state I have never consorted with or aided demons, diabolists, or practitioners of magic other than those sanctioned by the Order, and will continue this practice as long as I live.
I further swear the title of Magus is properly mine, being conferred upon me by magus in the year date, at the Covenant, within the tribunal tribunal. I, [Name], do now renounce all ties, oaths, and loyalties, binding or otherwise, to my parens and the Covenant of my apprenticeship.
Now I begin anew, and give myself wholly to Cliffheart. I understand all that this entails, and agree to all terms within the Covenant charter for now and for all time. In addition, I swear to follow both the Code of Hermes and the Peripheral Code, lest I lose my title of Magus, position within my House, and place within this Covenant.
From this day forward, Cliffheart shall be my home. I agree to make Cliffheart's goals mine own, its allies mine own, its enemies mine own, its riches mine own, and its hardships mine own. I swear never, by action or inaction, to allow the Covenant to come to harm, in the physical, magical, spiritual, or personal sense. I agree never to represent Cliffheart to others, sign binding pacts, or make oaths regarding its members or its welfare without first being so empowered by the Covenant. In all respects I will uphold the reputation and honor of this, my new home, and consider its welfare above my own.
This is my solemn Covenant. Cliffheart's very life is now mine own.

[Name] of [House]

1220, May

I, Al'gor of the noble House of Verditius, member of the sacred Order of Hermes, Primus of Cliffheart,

accept

what Eileen of Merinita asked me, about the construction of an armoury inside our beloved walls.
Through me, the Covenant engages in paying half of all necessary costs for the construction. Then new building will be under the protection of the Covenant. Eileen of Merinita engages in paying the remaining part of the expense and she recognize herself responsible of this new activity.

This pact will be valid and will be immediately executed after the first and successive deliberation of the Hibernian Tribunal, which this agreement will be submitted to.

Al'gor of Verditius, Excellentissimus

Eileen of Merinita

1222, March
to the Cliffheart Covenant

Honored Cliffheart,
this letter reach you after the deliberation of our last meeting, which took place last year, regarding measures against the druid community. Some friends of ours inform us the wagons used by these gipsy-like community to travel through Ireland, are now divided in two groups and one of this is leading to Laugh Leage, near Cill Airne (Killarney), where its arrival is foreseen within the first week of April.
The Order demand you a demonstration of your loyalty and ask you to eliminate any druid presence in that zone. I remember perfectly your strong opposition in the last Tribunal and I know the friendship between you and the members of that community; I recognize your awful situation. Anyway, your membership to this sacred Institution requires the accomplishments of any task, even of those we would never accept. Greyforest and Ashenrise will stop the remaining part of the druid group.

Liagan of Flambeau, Praeco of the Hibernian Tribunal

1222, March
to Eileen of Merinita and Gaia of Ex-Miscellanea

Fellows Magi, You know my temperament and you know how much hard it is, for me, to admit my mistakes, but this time it's correct I make an effort and beg your pardon. The failure of our last mission, against the druid wagons near Cill Airne, was mostly caused by my heedlessness: I have been husty in attacking the druid building without knowing its architecture, I overvalued the power of my spells and I underestimated the capacity of our enemies to summon faery people from the near wood. If I had the patience to study, from nearby, the camp we was supposed to destruct and if I waited for a face to face encounter with our enemies, I'm sure we would had an easy victory. My uneducated conduct caused the unwanted hostility of faeries of those damned woods, in addition to our enemies' survival.
For these reasons I am ready to accept your punishment and I am ready to take on all the responsibility of what happened towards Al'gor Excellentissimus Primus, the Hibernian Tribunal and the Sacred Order of Hermes, whatever will be the consequences for me.

Yolhe of Tytalus

1222, April
to the Cliffheart Covenant

Sodales,
the Order thanks you for the dedication you used in the last mission. Though, we know, the expedition had not positive results, at least not so good as expected, we recognize your efforts, and your loyalty to the Order and to the Tribunal please us. I want you to know that even the second expedition partially failed in achieving its objectives and we are still evaluating how much our mistakes and yours are related.
The Order thanks you again for the exceptional role you had in fighting the unholy events in Cionn tSáile (Kinsale), some months later. Anyway, and just for formality, Tanicus of Greyforest and Tulius of Ashenrise, members of the House Quaesitor and brothers of our Tribunal, will reach you in Cliffheart to verify the respect of the Oath. Assemblies of Hibernian Tribunal will take after the extraordinary meeting of two years ago, the usual cadence again.

Liagan of Flambeau, Praeco of the Hibernian Tribunal

1223, September

Afterwards the repayment of given money I recognize Patrick Windowl as the only owner and manager of the Armoury. The Covenant will advance no claim for the management of the Armoury nor for obteined profits.
It's still valid Eileen of Merinita's responsibility in front of Cliffheart's Council and Hibernian Tribunal for any problem to come.

Al'gor of Verditius, Excellentissimus

Eileen of Merinita

1225, April
to the Cliffheart Covenant

Salvete sodalibus,
Ashenrise is sad to hear of the Excellent Al'gor of Verditius' death. In many years we learnt to know him and often our relationships were pushed further than normal ones within the same Tribunal. Lovely, I remember our debates, our fights on this or that subject. He was a hot hearted man , defender of the Order, a skilled and scrupulous magus.
Ashenrise, through my mouth, wants to support you, if you need.
Venerable Aswick of Tytalus, let me talk to you as a sister and excuse me if I give up the official tone of this discussion: leading a Covenant is a hard task which involves a certain responsibility. Task to which you apply with competence and diligence. From the Tribunal, thanks to the work of the red caps, especially our friend Jocelin, news about the value and the skills of your young wizard are brought to us. But are they able to help you within your Covenant? Often the energy and the enthusiasm are not able to substitute the lack of experience and guile, needed skills in leading a Covenant, which is like a living being, with the cares it needs.
I, Elinor of Tremere, propose you a help in this task, a pact between my Covenant and yours, so they both can increase their power. Together we could grew up, give Hibernian Tribunal more importance and being a lighthouse for our sister Covenants; a reference point, an authoritative voice for facing profanes who want to gnaw our power.
That's why I propose you a meeting, here in Ashenrise, during the next new moon. Send your delegation, so we can build the ground of this project.

Your, Elinor of Tremere
Prima of Ashenrise

Cliffheart, August 1225
to Aswick of Tytalus

Salve Excellentissimus Primus,
I hope not to mispell the Latin greeting my Lady is used to use.
I'd like to explain a matter: after the end of the pact with Corcaigh's (Cork's) Bishop, I understand problems related to money in the management of this Covenant. The same problem occurs to my Armoury too; I don't want to compare in no way the management of a simple laboratory to that complicated one of a Covenant, but at the end of the year taxes come for all of us, even if I'd prefer to give money to fishes rather than to the church; excuse me for my frank words, but I'm not a sapient.
I think that the proceeds of the Armoury are enough to support my family, so that I mean to deposit part of this proceeds in the Covenant chests as a thanks for what was done for me. Moreover I renounce to my fee as a Custos of this Covenant, even if I will continue to protect my Lady Eileen of Merinita and to serve like escort as i did till now

Patrick Windowl

Cliffheart, September 1225
To Hibernian Tribunal

Sodales,
Cliffheart considers fair to inform you about the institution of Tournament organized by Master Patrick Windowl, Eileen of Merinita's custos and person responsible for the same armory in front of the Hibernian Tribunal, which will take place on Sherkin Island on July 7th 1226, the day when the sad disappearance of our previous Primus will be remembered.
The Tournament will consist of duels with swords and contests of bows and crossbows; such competitions will award Knights or simple Warriors who will partecipate and who are serving as grogs in the other Covenants of the Hibernian Tribunal.

Aswick of Tytalus, Primus
Eileen of Merinita, Senior Member
Patrick Windowl

Howling Hills, September 1225

Dear Sodales,
The cold northern wind which calls me in the place where I became Maga, doesn't alleviate this homesickness of the sea crushing into Sherkin cliffs, but my staying at Howiling Hills, will still be long. My faithful custos Pathos is going to come back to Cliffheart as soon as he can, to keep his duty for the Order, and the protection of the Covenant.
What happened a couple of months ago, near Maigh Chromtha (Macroom), along with my pervious misadventure with demons, make me think about my Way of being a member of the Order of Hermes, and particularly of the Ex-Miscellanea House. I prefer trying to understand what is it for, in this where I begun my Mission.

Your sister Gaia of Ex-Miscellanea

1225, October - Autumn Council deliberations

 - Eileen's election as Cliffheat's representor to the Hibernian Tribunal is moved to the next Council.
- Possible modifications to the Charter's XXXVIII article are discussed but not approved.

Howling Hills, October 1225
to all Hibernian Covenants

Dear Sodales,
I am very sad to write these words.
Even if you consider our Ex-Miscellanea Magi as strange magician, this time, during a study of mine, I forsaw the dangerous event that will strike our isle. A ethereal being told me about the awakening of a evil creature, whose comparison is related to blood and war.
The only thing I can do is to be aware and ask you to do the same.

Garret of Ex-Miscellanea, Primus of Howling Hills
loyal servant of the Order

1225, December - Winter Council deliberations

 - Patrick Windowl is nominated Vilicus of Cliffheart.
- After Garth's death, Luigi is now the new Centurion.
- Cliffhearts approves the payment of eighty sterlings for the next tournament; Patrick will manage the organization.

1226, January
to the Cliffheart Covenant

Nobile Lords,
excuse me if this letter arrives you from a still unknown sender. My name is Alexander Rocheford, Duke of Bristol, son of Duke Hanry, nephew of François the Norman, Duke of Chevalier.
I'd like to invite you to my wedding with Lady Mathilda of Wuarden FitzStephen, Duchess of Corcaigh. The feast will take place on March 17th in St. Patrick's Church and will be held by the Archbishop Samson of Waterford.
I'd want You to come to participate to the feast of the previous night.

Your
Alexander Rocheford, Duke of Bristol

1226, April
to the Cliffheart Covenant

Sodales,
The constant need of Justice took me in Corcaigh.
Here, casually, I heard a fact which, in my opinion, needs to be clarified. You'd have already understood I am talking about the recent events in which a man of yours was engaged, Jerome K. Rome. For this reason, then, I want to meet a representing member of your Covenant and, if possible, the owner of this man, here at FitzStephen's Palace.

Tanicus of Quaesitor
Ruling Quaesitor of Hibernian Tribunal

1227, January
to the Cliffheart Covenant

Dear Sodales,
The Britannic Tribunal has declared a Wizard March again Black Hawk, from The Covenant of Cad Gadu, on the western coasts of Britain: he stole enchantments from other members’ Sancta, towers of vis and several magical texts from the library. Moreover he’s suspected to have business with the Duke of Silbury.
For this reasons he’s wanted and retailed. The proposal of a Wizard March was made by Euflonia of Tytalus and Caligolas of Flambeau, both from Cad Gad, and approved on the last night of full moon a.d. 1226.
We think the Magus could be escaped together with his apprentice and custodes toward Irish coasts. We ask Cliffheart, and all the Hibernian Covenants as well, to find Black Hawk and punish him according to our Code. You’re the closest Covenant to Cionn tSáile, where, probably, the group landed.
To help you dealing with this mission, here are some information: Black Hawk is 50 years old and he’s a master Muto and Creo techniques and Animal, Terram, Corpus and Imaginem forms; usually, he wears a green cloak and has black hair. They say he has got a night bird as familiar.
With him there are Avunculus, his accomplice and their custodes and servants.

Praeco of Britannic Tribunal

1227, March - Spring Council deliberations

 - Nascimentus of Bonisagus is accepted as official Member.
- Mavors of Tremere's duty for the current year is decided. Following Yolhe of Tytalus proposal, approved by the whole Council, Mavors must travel for six months, visiting the territory delimitated by Tralee, Cill Airne, Maigh Chromtha, Corcaigh. For this travel he will have Joseph O'Connor and Laetus Viator with him.
- Laetus Viator's proposal to construct a physical map of surrounding places is rejected. It's considered too much expensive for the current vis resources.
- It's decided to construct a new external Sanctum for Mavors, who can occupy it after he joins the Covenant officially. Having the Covenant not enough money to raise the building, it's constructed with members' resources: 150 pounds given by Graudius and Yolhe, 200 pounds given by Eileen and 100 pound given by Aswick, plus 100 pounds by Mavors. Cliffheart will repay them as soon as possible.

Other deliberations taken as they are preparative for the next Tribunal:
- Ashenrise's proposal to declare its belongings on surrounding territory is accepted.
- A fine for Cliffheart behavior, regarding the strange case of Jerome K. Rome, is foreseen. The representative will try to solve the problem at the Tribunal meeting.
- Eileen's proposal to bring the problem fairy courts are having with the growing mundane power is considered opportune, but only if it will be referred like a news and not like pro fays position.
- Regarding the proposal to extend Bonisagus' rights to the Peripheral Code of Hibernia is rejected.
- Cliffheart decides to stay neutral regarding the English empire and its conquers.
- Cliffheart will support the possibility to create new Covenants inside the Tribunal.
- Representatives for the next Hibernian Tribunal are chosen: Eileen of Merinita, Graudius of Flambeau and Nascimentus of Bonisagus. They will take the above decision in front of the Tribunal.

1227, June - Hibernian Tribunal deliberations

 - Ashenrise declares as hers both magical and mundane resources around her within two days for the first and seven miles for the latter.
- No punishemet is decided for Cliffheart: accusations are retired.
- The proposal of the Bonisagus representant is approved: the entire House Bonisagus has got a priviledge on using magical resources of the other members of the Order.
- The Hibernian Tribunal is neutral about the anglo-irish war, though a filo-anglo orientamento prevale.
- The proposal to close the number of Covenant which can belong to the Tribunal is rejected.
- Derbail of Criamon, Kilith of Flambeau and Gerald of Jerbiton will be the Tribunal's representant at Durenmar.

1227, June - Summer Council deliberations

 - The deliberations taken within the Tribunal are discussed: the positions and the behaviors of each representative of Cliffheart are showed to the Primus.
- Cliffheart Members are informed about the meeting between Cliffheart representatives and the Senior Member Gaia of Ex-Miscellanea who appeared to be in a confusional state. She was there as Howling Hills representative.
- The Primus express his will to know Gaia' situation; for this reason he's going to organize a visit to Howling Hills.
- Eileen informs the Council that she's going to leave for Maigh Chromtha. She heard rumors about a faerie wood. The Council agrees the mission.

1227, December - Winter Council deliberations

 - Laetus Viator of Mercere announces he will leave the Covenant soon to join the sixth crusade.
- Nascimentus of Bonisagus is the new Librarius, office held previously by Laetus Viator.

1228, March - Spring Council deliberations

 - Yolhe requires to revaluate Gaia's position within the Covenant. The sodales, following the Primus' piece of advice, entrust a letter to Jocelin of Mercere directed to Garret of Ex--Miscellanea, Primus of Howling Hills. This to obtain recent news about Gaia's conditions.
- Graudius' proposal to add to the Charter a list of exclusion causes is rejected. We consider enough to call an extraordinary council every time it's necessary.
- Laetus says farewell to the present Members.
- After a long discussion and some fights, Mavors of Tremere is accepted as Ordinary Member of the Covenant. During the discussion, Yolhe leaves the hall.

1228, April - Extraordinary Council for Primus' death deliberations

 - The Sodales enter Aswick's lab and found: the private diary showing his last days of sufferance; the spell he invented to turn Yolhe to woman; the secret letter with the name of his successor.
- Yolhe of Tytalus will be the new Primus of Cliffheart. She promises to take note of the objects she will find inside the sanctum.

1228, June - Summer Council deliberations

 - Mavors of Tremere communicates to have bought Geoff's library in Cionn tSáile. Mavors allows that most of them will be shared by the Covenant, with the further opportunity to copy and hold the rest in Cliffheart library.
- Mavors presents the proposal to modify the Charter, especially Senior Members' powers.
